On December 14th, 2024 Colby Covington is set to fight Joaquin Buckley at Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay, Florida. Buckley is on a 5 fight winning streak beating fighters like Thompson and Luque. Covington on the other hand is coming off of a decision loss to Edwards for the title.
In this bout, I expect Covington to do what he does best and grind/cage wrestle his opponents. Covington’s cardio is elite and can definitely outpace Buckley. Buckley on the other hand has power in his hands, and is a very skilled and educated striker. Though I don’t think Covington will look to take Buckley down repeatedly, I think Covington will be looking to smother his opponent with relentless pressure and cruise to a decision. Whereas for Buckley, I expect him to use lots of lateral movement and sit down on his punches when Covington tries to close distance.
